Our Mission

OneLamp expands access to affordable modern clean energy solutions through innovative distribution networks and mobile payment technology for the world’s deprived and underserved communities in Sub Saharan Africa. Mobile and GSM networks have become the predominant infrastructure covering 75% of Africa. In Uganda, for instance despite the persisting energy poverty, mobile subscription has reached 80% with over 25million people owning mobile devices. OneLamp leverages an existing transport network combined with a direct sales force of local retailers and the wide spread of mobile connectivity to create an on-demand service for clean energy.

We have developed a very simple cheap mobile based solution that allows OneLamp to directly reach offgrid customers scattered in semi-urban and rural areas without internet access or grid connection in Africa. We have already created a direct and growing retail operation with over 500 retail points across Uganda. Our goal is a 25% market share of the Off-grid market in Uganda by the end of 2025 before expanding to other East African countries. Our target is to eliminate kerosene lanterns in 1million offgrid households and small medium businesses in Uganda by the end of 2025.

Its Time To End Energy Poverty!

"An estimated 600 million individuals in sub-Saharan Africa light their homes at night using kerosene lamps. They are dim, cost about $50 per year to keep fueled, create poor indoor air quality, consume fossil fuels, and cause house fires and injuries among children. "

Social Impact Goal 1

To avert 40million kgs of CO2 emissions in Uganda by eliminating kerosene lanterns that rely on fossil fuels. Uganda consumes 50 million liters of kerosene annually, releasing about 1.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The adoption and the usage of solar technology leads to a reduction of greenhouse gases that cause climate change and its impact on the socio-economic livelihood of communities in Uganda

Social Impact Goal 2

To deliver clean lighting to 200,000 offgrid African households in Uganda. Providing energy access to off-grid households through solar home systems is one of the most efficient ways. Our customers move from less efficient lighting sources such as kerosene lamps, to solar home systems that can power high quality LED bulbs and super-efficient appliances that were not a possibility for them before. Our customers spend less money and also eliminate harmful exposure to indoor air pollution. In addition, the money that’s saved can be redirected towards health needs, education and housing.

Social Impact Goal 3

To expand access to affordable productive modern clean energy solutions for small medium enterprises particularly dairy farmers. Over the next 5 years our goal is to install 1,000 solar milk coolers annually for offgrid dairy farms in Uganda. Statistics show that over 27% of Uganda’s milk produced is wasted due to lack of cooling solutions. Due to limited electrification in rural areas, 85 percent of Uganda’s 2.5m smallholder dairy farming families do not have access to refrigerated storage and transportation. This deficiency in the distribution chain results in less than half of the milk produced reaching dairy processors. OneLamp’s solar powered milk cooling solution aims to increase dairy farm productivity and income by significantly decreasing milk spoilage.
